What is working by pen and paper going to do for your writing?

It's sort of like changing the weight of the bat you're using when you step up to the plate. It forces me out of my habits, a bit, and makes me look at the words I'm putting down harder than I normally would.
In a sense.
There's a better figure of speech for it that I haven't placed yet.
